She left Sky News and joined eNews Channel Africa, based in South Africa. Burak relocated to South Africa because her husband had found a new job there. She later rejoined Sky News and worked there for two years before departing to join Al Jazeera English in Doha.

The journalist later returned to BBC in May 2016. Lukwesa became the BBC Radio presenter for East Midlands. The experienced reporter went on to join TV again as a presenter for the Inside Out East Midlands.
