Velena Jones Biography
The trails of life that dare our belief in our dreams. Every one of us must face these trials at some point in life. Velena Jones developed a condition that led to hair loss. It scared her because she thought the condition would dim her dream of becoming a reporter. Being a person of deep faith, she held on to her long-held dreams. Now, she is a top journalist. Velena Jones is an award-winning reporter, multimedia journalist, and anchor for NBC Bay Area. Prior, she worked at KABC, WBKB, and KOIN.
Personal Details
Velena Jones was born on 27th September 1989/90 in Concord. She was raised in a Christian family, where she learned life and family values. These values have preserved her and helped her in focusing on what matters. As of 2024, Jones’s primary focus is her career. Matters concerning marriage, relationships, or having a husband and starting a family come second.
The Christian values surrounding her family led her to join Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek. In 2008, she joined Biola University where she majored in Broadcasting Journalism and minored in Biblical studies. Jones was active as a student as she was President of the Black Student Association from 2009 to 2010 and later a member of the National Association of Black Journalists until the present.
Velena Jones Career
Velena grew up as a talkative child. She somehow knew she would become a journalist as she wanted to use her voice to inspire and impact. She interned at KTVU, CBS Television Distribution, NBC Universal, and NBC News. As a student, she worked part-time outside the niche of media as she was a sales representative at Nordston where she managed and balanced daily sales. When she graduated, she joined KABC as a news assistant and Traffic producer.
She also researched information for daily newscasts. After 9 months, She joined WBKB-TV as a News director, reporter, and anchor. Her responsibilities were producing, writing, and editing broadcasting stories. Here, she had the opportunity to host a program called Insights into Michigan. This program won the Michigan Broadcasting Award.
In 2014, she traveled to Madison, Wisconsin Area to work for WISC-TV as a News Reporter and fill-in anchor. Her daily tasks included attending to general assignments and filling in for multiple newscasts. Her time in Madison was successful as received a Midwest Regional Emmy for covering the 2015 Tony Robinson shooting. After serving for 4 years, she joined KOIN-TV as a reporter and fill-in anchor.
In April 2022, she worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for CBS Sacramento. At Sacramento, she had the opportunity to cover historic natural occurrences, church shootings, and special community projects. She joined NBC Bay Area in 2022, At NBC she has been covering San Francisco Giant and Golden State Warriors.

The Christian values instilled in her as a child have been important in helping her to rise in her career. While she is not working she spends time hiking or doing yoga. Velena also spends time with members of the community through volunteering and participating in NAACP, Urban League, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
