Besides journalism, Willis has a passion for serving the community through her organization, which aims to uplift women. Prior to working at 12 News, she worked at The K Spot, Like Minds, and Townsquare Media.

Kara went to Stephen F. Austin State University where she majored in Theater and minored in Radio and TV. In 2014, she joined the University of Houston where she did Broadcast Journalism. Kara returned to Stephen to do an MBA in Mass Communications.
While in school she tried working as a blogger for Townsquare Media but later transferred to Buiyakah where she was a Sales Associate. After three years, she joined SFA Disability Services as a Note Taker. An interest in teaching grew prompting her to take a job at Applause Theatrical School as a director and teacher. Her responsibility was to teach students about theater and plays. She then became a children’s gym instructor at The Little Gym.

Her roles were building community relationships and using social media to make and execute plans. At that time, she got a working opportunity at The K Spot where she worked as a freelance reporter. After serving for 6 years. Kara got a chance at 12 News as a reporter and MSJ.
