Growing up in the United States, Mari wanted an opportunity to represent her people. When college opportunity came, becoming a journalist was the best option. She went to Florida University where she did Telecommunications.
Before school, Salazar had an opportunity to work as a radio anchor for WUF-FM. She had live on-air experienced and also hosted local segments. As a student, she interned at WPLG where she managed the hotline and helped in the production of a segment called Call Christina. Mari also assisted in reporting and writing package scripts.
She got her first working opportunity at WUFT where she was a multimedia journalist responsible for creating content for the media network and pitching story ideas. When needed, she filled in for anchors on leave. After two years, she was promoted to an anchor for the 5 pm newscast. She covered crime, natural disasters, politics, and elections at the state and national levels.
Seeing a rising news anchor, KLBK seized the opportunity and opened a door for Mari, which she gladly accepted. She started as an MMJ responsible for editing stories and shooting videos for the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts, and also creating content for the website and social media platforms. After two years, she became a weekend anchor for the 12 p,m news on Friday and 6 and 10 pm News on Saturday. She also had the responsibility of updating the website in cases of breaking news and checking news scripts. In 2019, she left for KVUE to become a reporter and MMJ. There, she covered political news and events surrounding Texas and the United States. She also updated the media outlet website and took the anchor role when needed. As of 2021, she is serving as the 7 news reporter for WHDH-TV.

When she is not working, Mari loves to participate in community work, especially those supporting Latin Americans. In 2012, she co-founded Hoop it Up a basket tournament aimed at raising money to help societies such as Autism Speaks, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.
