She went through a physically and emotionally abusive relationship with her college boyfriend. Although the relationship failed, Tonya did not lose hope of having a husband and her family. Along the way, she met a wonderful man whom she later married and had a boy with her.

She went to Fayetteville State University and got her degree at Florida International University where she studied Public Administration. At Florida, Rapley was a Student Research assistant who helped in researching the affordable housing crises and analyzing the findings of a ten-year master plan for municipalities in Miami. Tonya resumed school in 2011 for her MBA in Urban affairs at Brooklyn College.
After graduating, she got an opportunity to work at Poseidon enterprises as an analyst. Her roles were assisting in the implementation of computer software and resolving inventory discrepancies that saved the company close to $500,000. After a year, she became a social media consultant working as Digital Marketing Specialist. She increased online and offline visibility and created social media contests for organizations such as Beats by Dre and Joya Bravo.
From 2010 to 2015, Rapley participated in community activities as a coordinator. She created community programs such as financial literacy workshops, film screenings, and Panel discussions.
