She was born on 22nd January 1983. The 39-year-old moved to America with her family after civil and political unrest plagued her mother nation. Their family, her parents, and two brothers settled in New Jersey, where they started a new life. Desiring to follow in her parent’s footsteps, Astrid entered into a relationship while in college. The relationship, however, ended in separation despite having a child. Since then, Astrid had been raising her daughter Jolie on her own and still pursuing her career. Education and Career
The political instability in Colombia stirred within Astrid the desire to become a journalist. It placed in her heart the passion to tell the story as it is. While in America, she got the opportunity to chase her dreams. Martinez joined Montclair State University for a degree in Broadcast journalism and a minor in Latin American Studies.
After graduating, she interned at several media stations and got her first big job when at KGBT where she served as an anchor and reporter. Astrid helped launch the first Spanish Speaking Newscast for Barrington Broadcasting. Her responsibilities were reporting breaking news and updating information.
She served there for 2 years before joining WBTV as a reporter and anchor. She was tasked with writing daily articles on the station’s website. Astrid did ground research, and interviews with community residents to get daily stories. In the three years she worked here, Astrid was nominated at the Emmys as the best morning newscast. After leaving WBTV, she joined NBC Universal for 7 months as a reporter and later joined WGCL as a reporter. As in other media stations, Astrid was hands-on when it came to reporting duties. She involved herself with the community to get relevant stories. Her hard work earned her an Emmy.
She worked at WGCL for 4 years and later moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a News Correspondent for BNC. Astrid worked there for 1 year before joining CBS as a reporter. As a reporter for CBS, Martinez has covered heartbreaking and inspiring news.
