Jill Macyshon is the first of the few women in Canada who defied the odds and decided to join the corporate world. Jill started at the University of Manitoba where she studied English Language and Literature. While in school she got exposed to journalism and developed a liking for it. Jill joined Red River College Polytechnic where she did a diploma in Communication and Journalism.
After graduating, Jill got a rare opportunity at CTV Winnipeg as a reporter, In 2002, she got promoted to National News Correspondent based in Winnipeg. Her past studies in history and literature have led Jill to have an interest in the historical affairs of people in Canada.
She has covered indigenous communities in Canada and some concerns like suicide, health, and poverty, which plague them. Jill has also covered issues in recent times like the need to start breast cancer screening 10 years earlier than advised by Canadian doctors. In the coverage, Jill informed viewers that Canadian doctors are asking the government to follow the US model of dealing with breast cancer since it is the most common cancer among women and the leading cause of cancer deaths.
She also covered Canada’s involvement with the Ukraine and Russia War. Jill did a story on two courageous Canadians, who participated in the war in support of Ukraine. The two soldiers were killed in one of the bloodiest battles in the City of Bakhmut.
She has also covered the issue of housing in Winnipeg. Jill covered a story North of Winnipeg where approximately 15 to 20 people live together in a small house. Her coverage revealed that people sleep in shifts because there is limited space for people to sleep at the same time.
