Jason Mikell is an American journalist working for WKYC as a weather specialist. He has had several working experiences that have honed his skills. Mikel has previously worked in WLIO, KVUE, as an intern at Noaa National Weather Service, and Fox 26.

Mikell, 34 or 36, was born and raised in Columbia, Mississippi. He comes from supportive parents and 2 siblings, a sister and a twin-like brother. His passion for meteorology came later in his life. However, he was a lover of education and academics. He went to Pearl River Community College where he did an associate’s degree in liberal arts and studies. Later he joined The University of Southern Mississippi where he studied education and Psychology. When the meteorology bug kicked, he joined Mississippi State University where he did Atmospheric Sciences and Operational Meteorology.
Before he became a weather specialist, Jason started as a corporate recruiter. He started as an intern for Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources where he tracked job opportunities and posted them online for application. He also assisted in preparing staff development manuals. This experience earned him an employment opportunity at Staffing Plus where he wrote and edited contract jobs and posted on various platforms, He also interviewed candidates for positions in medical institutions. Vitamin T later called him for the same occupation where he scheduled and assisted in interviewing new staff. He helped in researching and compiling extensive databases for recruitment.
His recruiter time was over after he realized the potential of becoming a meteorologist. As a student, Mikell interned at Noaa National Weather Service, where he recorded data on 3 storms and reported weather news on daily shifts. Jason got his first job at WLIO where he was the chief meteorologist responsible for updating viewers on weather trends every morning and distributing the news live on-air and on social media in case of breaking news. In 2018, the journalist joined KVUE ABC as a meteorologist who developed and created weather information for his audience. He also prepared and distributed breaking news for severe storms. In 2021, he was called to work for WKYC Studios in the same position.
