Mike Curtis has had an interesting journey to become who he is today. Throughout his career, he has covered other people’s stories. He was born on 5th May 1991 in Paducah, Kentucky but later moved to Saginaw after his father died in 1995. Curtis is the only child in his family. He is also yet to marry as his career remains his main concern.
Education
He started schooling at Buena Vista High School where he worked part-time at Hungry Howie Pizza. The journey to becoming a journalist took off when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He joined Tenessee State University where he majored in architecture as his passion was art. His decision to do architecture stemmed from thinking architects had money. He quickly switched to mass communication after he realized his passion was storytelling.
As a student, Curtis worked as a writer at The Lo-Key where he covered weekly sports news and created content on Twitter and Facebook. He was also a contributor at An Exquisite Dream where he did 4 stories every month. Curtis interned at PRIDE Publishing Group LLC where he covered breaking news and wrote compelling news for print and online media. He also interned at The Tennesse Tribune Newspaper where he was charged with writing sports news in the sports section.
Career
After graduating, Mike worked at several marketing organizations. He served at Titan Elements as the marketing specialist where he created dynamic marketing campaigns. He also joined TLK Groups as a Sales Agent where he tracked customers and provided solutions for products sold. Mike served in Asurion as a claims specialist and online support chat representative. He assisted clients with registration, inquiries made in the web portal, and processing insurance.
In 2016, he joined Middle Tennessee State University for a master’s in mass communication and media studies. As a master’s student, Mike worked as a designer and page editor for the USA Today Network. He modified headlines for 16 newspapers, created inside pages, and trimmed stories. Mike was also a contributor at Bleacher reporter where he was part of the special projects team.
After graduating, Mike interned at Knoxville News Sentinel at the sports journalism institute. He learned to create multimedia articles and videos, and write stories based on the information submitted.
He got his first job at the USA Today Network as a sports writer. Mike did stories on Austin Peay State University football. He did reviews for high school sports and popular athletes. After 3 months, he joined syracuse.com as a college sports reporter doing reports on high school sports, managing the school’s social media accounts, and interviewing basketball stars. In 2022, he joined The Detroit News as a Detroit Pistons beat Writer.

When he is not working, Mike enjoys playing football. He might not have the height but he loves doing the swoosh shot. Mike also enjoys listening to hip-hop, RnB, and some gospel.
