Darlene Melendez describes herself as a storyteller at heart. She is an American journalist working as a news anchor for KOAT Action 7 News. She has covered events across the United States that have had national and international interest. Her expertise stems from having experience working at News 12, KLAS-TV, and KYMA.

She was born on 6th April 1993 in Los Angeles. Darlene is a believer in family values and good morals and tries to maintain them. In matters concerning relationships, Melendez is single as of 2022. Melendez’s passion for appearing on the screen became more real as she grew up. This passion led her to enroll for Broadcast Journalism and minor in media production and marketing at Pepperdine University. There, she got an opportunity to hone her journalism skills. She was also actively involved in school affairs as she was an intern at the Office of International Student Services where she assisted international students to enroll at the school.
While in high school Melendez worked as a Sales Lead at Aeropostale where she filled in for the manager and acted as the brand ambassador while in high school. As a college student, Melendez kickstarted her career as a host and traffic and weather reporter for 101.5 KWVS where she created music playlists and content and gave traffic and weather updates.
At the same time, she served as a News anchor, assistant producer, and social media manager at TV32. There, she had the duty of working closely and developing relationships with the community, creating and managing news waves on the station’s social media handles. She also assisted in the production of newscasts and writing scripts. She also worked part-time as a SPA receptionist at Westin Bonaventure Hotel providing customer service and hospitability in a fast-paced environment.

Still advancing her career, Darlene got an internship opportunity at Fremantle media as a development intern tasked with conducting research for unscripted programs such as Married to Medicine, The Real Housewives, and other reality shows. Learning the ropes of social media led her to work at McBeard Media as a Social Media Manager and Engager where she learned to optimize content. She also learned to create social media accounts with a strong following. In 2013, Darlene assisted Nickelodeon as a Music and Talent in events such as the 2013 Halo Awards and 2014 Kids’ Choice Awards, the launching of Nick Radio, and researching music composers and producers for nickelodeon shows.
She left Nickelodeon and joined Young Hollywood as a staff writer who research and analyzed pop culture trends and created stories based on trending news and reached out and interviewed artists. In September 2014, she joined The Recording Academy as and New Media Intern wrote and distributed press releases to assignment editors, and assisted in recruiting and event marketing.
She started her journalism journey as a FOX Social Media Manager for Laundry Service. Her responsibility was managing social media accounts for FOX original television shows and creating real-time content planned special events for meaningful interactions with fans and influencers.

Melendez later joined KYMA News 11 as an anchor, producer, and Multimedia journalist who produced anchored and reported weather forecasts. She also broke news and pitched enterprise story ideas. After 1 year and 3 months, she joined 8 News and NOW KLAS Team as a reporter and fill-in anchor whore made daily reports, and did breaking news. She also filled in as an anchor, covering some big stories in the country. After 2 years she joined News 12 as an anchor and reporter before joining KOAT 7 as a news anchor in January 2022.
