Greg Surrat Biography

If I could describe Greg Surrat as a character of the Bible, I would call him Jonah. Surrat tried to run from his calling but wherever he went, he would be reminded of the person he would become in the future. His grandfather and father were faithful in the mission of planting churches, this was his calling not by choice but by divine design. Running from his calling later saw him starting Seacoast Church, one of the fastest-growing churches in the United States. He is also the president of the Association of Related Churches, a foundation dedicated to planting churches.

Greg Surrat Age, Wife, and Family

Greg Surrat was born on the 14th of January. The 60-something pastor is a son, husband, father of four, and grandfather of 14. He is married to Debbie Surrat. The couple tied the know on 30th July 1976. Greg comes from a lineage of pastors and church planters. It started with his grandfather, who was first a mean bootlegger selling to gangs in the country. He got shot by people and shot some himself.

However, his life changed when he got a paul-like encounter. From there, his life changed. A seed was born within him. He planted many churches and passed the torch to his son, Greg’s father. Greg’s father was a pastor and an evangelist. He traveled from place to place planting churches and spreading the gospel of Christ.

Beginning of His Ministry

Although Greg had come from a family of pastors, he never liked church life. He wanted to become a rock n roll star. He joined a band of rock stars and played with them. One day, while playing for the band, the seed of pastorship came alive to him when he spoke to a crowd that paid attention to him. This desire consumed him, leading him to apply for a job.

However, pastorship was harder than he thought. Greg got fired from 3 jobs. This experience sunk him into depression as he could not meet his and his family’s financial needs. In the midst of depression, burnout, and poverty, Greg made a decision that would transform his life forever. He wanted to plant a church.

Before he could plant it, he got a job as an associate pastor. He performed poorly at his job, compelling his employers to give him a space where he would plant a church. In February 1988, he planted Seacoast Church, with an attendance of 100 people. Since then, attendance has been growing at a high rate.

As of 2022, the church has a weekly attendance of 10,000 people and 14 campus churches. He also started the Association of Related Churches, whose responsibility would be planting churches. They have a goal of planting 2,000 churches. On 22nd January 2022, ARC announced it had planted 1,000 churches.

Controversy

Like most successful pastors, Greg has been associated with controversies. The Roy’s Report accused Greg Surrat of preaching incorrect doctrine and misconduct in ARC. The report claimed that there was a contradiction between Surrats claims and the Organization’s financial claims. It added that ARC was embroiled in sexual scandals and some pastors were facing lawsuits. Greg indirectly responded to these claims by preaching a sermon on persecution, stating that some people were accusing him of lying yet he was trying to do the right thing.
