Jawan Strader Biography
If you regularly watch the news, you are perhaps familiar with Jawan Starder. He has more than 20 years of experience working for NBC 6. Throughout his experience, he has covered news and done stories that have earned him Emmy Awards and recognitions in the media industry. He is also popular for giving back to the South Florida Community by running a program called Voice with Jawan Strader. The show aims at connecting the black community in South Florida. He is an Indianapolis native born on 15th November 1951. He has a close relationship with his mother who raised him on her own. Unfortunately, his mother passed on on 30th March 2022. Strader is also married to Yolanda Strader, a lawyer, and a businesswoman. Jawan has 5 children. 3 from his past relationships and two from his marriage to Yolanda. In 2023, they went on 10 dates to celebrate 10 years of their marriage.
Career and Education

His journalism career began at a CBS affiliate where he was an anchor and host of a community affairs show. In 2012, he joined NBC 6 as an evening anchor. After 4 years, he was promoted to news anchor and host at NBC 6 South Florida.
Aside from working as an anchor, he has used his position to promote the Black people living in South Florida. He is the host of a show called Voices with Jawana Strader. In the show, he has covered medical institutions that battle and prevent breast cancer among the black community, a non-profit organization that bridges the gap between families and their disconnected fathers, local business that help black people dress well, and other news.
His works as a journalist have earned him several Emmy awards. In 2018 he was recognized as the Best News anchor by the Miami New Times. Jawan has also been recognized by Media Coverage of Public Education, Legacy Magazine, and in the Media Excellence Award. Jawan has also had the privilege to interview celebrities like Rick Ross and Kodak Blakk.
Outside work, he is popular as a motivational speaker. He mentors young journalists and he is a role model to more than 5000 young people. Jawan has inspired business in South Florida. He is also a big supporter of his wife’s law firm and business.
