Her journey in journalism began while she was a student. In September 2009, she joined Gorozhanin as a reporter. She later joined the Objective Investigative Reporting Project as a coordinator. Her responsibility was coordinating a grant project focused on helping journalists in Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus. From 2014 to 2016, she joined Associated Reporters Abroad (ARA) as a contributor where she published articles in USA Today, Global Post, and other Western outlets. All of this time, Rudenko was an employee at Kyiv Post in various positions. In 2011, she worked as a Staff writer for 2 years. She was then promoted to Editor in 2013. In 2017 she rose to the position of Deputy Chief Editor, a position she holds to date.
In an exclusive video interview with Financial Times journalist Edward Luce, we found out that Rodenka participated in founding the Kyiv Independent. From the interview, she stated that the publication had 30,000 Twitter but rose to 1.7 million once Russia attacked Ukraine. She further stated that the success of Kyiv Independent was a combination of efforts of funds from the fledgling organization, website traffic, and Twitter followers.
