Ruth La’Ontra Biography

Ruth comes from a deeply rooted Christian family. She was born on 22nd July 1992 in Aberdeen, North Carolina. Her family, straight from her grandparents, have been pastors and evangelists. She is the daughter of Arvetra and Ruth C Jones who are the lead pastors of Come as You Are Evangelistic Center. Following the Christian way became natural to Ruth and her two siblings. Ruth carried the name Jones with her professionally but later dropped it after her marriage to her long-time friend Kashif Horton. The two are blessed with two children as of 2022.
Career
Ruth and her siblings have been singing since they were children. The artist remembers herself singing as early as age 2. At age 8, she was opening for nationally recognized artists such as Helen Baylor. She carried the same energy and enthusiasm while in High school. She was the member and the lead vocalist of the Teen Pure-N-Heart choir that received an award in the 27th annual stellar gospel music award for the album Teen Pure B Heart. The success she has as a teenager prepared her for a bigger stage coming in future.
In 2013, she released her debut album So Good. The Album was an immediate success. It charted on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts. Music from the album filled the airwaves before releasing her sophomore album, I Got You, in 2017. Like the previous album, I Got You did well on the charts. Anthony Brown and Justin Savage were major influences in making her second Album. I Got You features songs such as Reight, Salt, Kingdom, Tis so Sweet, in My Name, and on the Way.
Despite the success she has had, Ruth has also gone through some challenges that have threatened her consistency, One of her major shoulders to lean on, her aunt passed on unexpectedly. The experience was greatly painful to Ruth, limiting her ability to write and sing. However, after a lot of prayer and support from friends, God helped Ruth. She regained her strength and wrote a song about the experience.
Although modern society is demanding contemporary gospel music, Ruth has held her stand on the main Christian belief. She believes in spreading the word of Christ and the gospel to the ends of the world. Her kingdom assignment is to reach the lost through her talent.
