At age 3, she entered the foster care system.
At age 9, her biological mother confessed to her that she was born out of rape. Instead of hiding it, Petersen’s mother encouraged her to share it with everyone with the hope that her story would inspire other women who had gone through the same ordeal. Tori’s mother was unstable and made mistakes. She took her to 12 foster care homes. All of them gave Tori a bitter-sweet experience and shaped her into the woman she is today. Petersen embraced Christianity and became an influential voice speaking hope for children in foster care and against abortion even in the case of rape. Tori Hope Petersen is a foster care survivor. She has survived to become a national speaker, author, and fountain of hope for children in foster care. At the age of 25, she won the title of Mrs. Universe.

Petersen was born in 1994. She will be celebrating her 28th birthday in 2022. She was born out of abuse after her mother was raped. Her biological mother became unable to raise her and sent her to the foster care system at age 3. She later went to more than 10 foster care homes. Her last foster care home was close to the feeling of home.
The single foster care mom took her to Church, attended games, and took her to a Christian college. She met Jacob Petersen when she was in High School, a highly conservative Christian College. However, she got pregnant before marriage. Tori got backlash from Conservative Christians, who the couple claimed were unloving. However, the couple decided to remain together. They confessed their sin and married in 2018 and had another child and adopted a young son. The couple has three children.

Tori went to Hillsdale Christian College where she earned a Christian Studies and Psychology degree. She was an active student while in college. In 2016, Tori was an advocate and Policy Advisor for the Congressional Coalition of Adoption Institute. The same year she was on the legislative staff of the Office of US House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
Her responsibility was to attend meetings with the legislative staff. After graduating, Petersen joined Brace Global Inc as a Leadership Academy Developer who formed mentorship programs for young women at risk of human trafficking or victims of human trafficking.
In 2020, she founded the Beloved Initiative aimed at helping foster youths to access opportunities and helping to change their narratives. The same year she wrote a memoir called Fostered, which was published in 2022 and became a best-seller almost immediately. In 2021, she was recalled at Hillsdale College where she became an executive assistant for Special Recruitment. Her responsibility was recruiting and aiding underserved students to the college. While in this position, Tori founded Fostering the Good Scholarship to help underserved students with financial problems.
From when she was in college to graduation and on, Tori was involved in public speaking. She spoke at many conferences and churches and has worked with child welfare organizations on the issues of foster care and improving the livelihoods of foster care survivors. Petersen has become an influential figure advocating for improved livelihoods for Foster Care survivors. She is also against abortion because she is a survivor of a case that others would solve by abortion. Tori uses her Instagram to share her story with the world. She has also been a guest interviewee at Essence, Christian Post and Life Today TV.

Although she was born out of rape, she has managed to live a good life, one that is also admired by many.
