Zim Flores Age, Husband and Family

Zim whose Nigerian name is Ugochukwu was born on 25th February 1988 in Mankato, Minnesota to Nigerian immigrants. She has one sibling who is two years older than her. Her family background story was not one to admire but from it, we get to see where she learned to be resilient. Her mother initially lived in Nigeria but left for the United States to get married to her father in an arranged event.

The arranged marriage turned out to be sour. Zim’s father was toxic and emotionally abusive to her mother. Her mother who had worked her way up the academic ladder ran from him when he had gone on a business trip to Nigeria. They ran to Greyhound, California to live with their cousin and later returned to Minnesota when her father left America for Nigeria.

Seeing her family background was not pleasing, Zim resorted to changing the narrative of her own family. In November 2020, she got married to her long-time friend and partner Jason Flores, a consultant at Big Four Accounting Firm. The two have been friends since 2008. They dated long-distance for 5 years. They got married at Chateau Le Mont Epinguet in France. On January 2nd, 2023, Zim announced the birth of her first Child.

The Start of a Star

Zim has always valued education, an attribute she learned from her mother. She excelled well and became a noticed student at the University of North Carolina where she was studying Biology.

In her freshman year, she cloned a gene and got the opportunity with The National Science Foundation to travel the country to talk about her research. On these trips, she got an opportunity to meet people and learn about community organization.

Together with her friends, they started Forget Tobacco, an organization run by young people to fight against tobacco. As the vice president of the organization, Flores was tasked with formulating plans, improving effectiveness, and managing budgets.

In addition, she started Ignite Greensboro, an international civil rights museum that organized reen community-building partnerships and mobilized students to participate in community affairs.

As a child, Zim was accustomed to church affairs. During the week, she would be found in Church. Her college years were different. Her passion for Church gradually declined. In an interview with Jesus Calling, she confessed to being a lukewarm Christian. This nature was about to end after graduating.

In 2011, Flores sold everything and traveled to Banglore, India on The Luce Scholars Program. Living in India was difficult as she had to sleep on a train with 450 other girls. Zim resorted to the internet to find Christian content because Churches and Christian Customs were few in India.

Outs of the confines of the Church, Zim started building her relationship with God. By the time she was leaving India, Zim was a different person. She became more intentional about seeking God.

Her time in India and what she heard from black people in America birthed a business idea in her. Zim learned that African American people were underrepresented in the traveling business. To change this fact, she started Travel Noire, which would promote African American travel.

With the $17k she had saved from her previous Jobs, Zim started her company. For 18 months, Zim and a couple of volunteers built an audience. Afterward, the website blew up. They sold all 110 spots in 90 minutes.

Going with God

By this time, Zim’s relationship with God had become intimate. In 2015, she felt the Lord telling her to sell the Travel Noire. At first, the decision did not make sense because she had spent a lot of money working on building the Company. Her trust in the Lord, however, was firm.

In 2015, she sold Travel Noire to Blavity, run by Morgan Debaun for an undisclosed amount. Zim worked for Blavity as the Chief Brand Officer, helping the brand to reach 2 million travelers a month. In 2019, Zim obeyed God’s call. She left Travel Noire and took a 1 year sabbatical to talk to God about her future.

In 2020, Italicist was born. It is an apparel company that promotes dressing modestly. It was birthed out of her desire to reflect God by intentionally wearing modestly. The clothing company helps women find clothes that respect their standards and beauty.

She also started Morning Assembly, an online platform that helps Christian Entrepreneurs to become better stewards of wealth and finances. In addition to her company was Glory Road which is similar to Travel Noire but it will is more focused on bringing God’s people together. With her husband, she buys small online businesses and scales them to reach more people.
