Amberly Lago’s Story

The unpredictability of life can be scary. Tables can turn real quick and what we thought we had can be out of reach faster than we imagined. But the human spirit knows no limits. People have tapped into their spirit and conquered all that life can offer. Amberly Lago faced a terrifying moment in her life. She lived the American life. She was a professional trainer, coach, and professional dancer. Her body was fit and admired by many.

In  May 2010, 2 years into her marriage and weeks before her 38th birthday, Amberly had an accident. She was hit by an SUV while riding on her motorcycle. Amberly’s right leg was crushed beyond what the doctors could repair. The doctors also diagnosed her with CRPS, a no-cure condition that develops after an injury, leaving the part with excruciating pain and swelling.

One doctor opted to amputate her leg, but her husband declined, another told her she would be disabled her entire life and another discouraged her from wearing shorts. She had 34 surgeries all trying to fix her leg.

After four months, she started feeling better and later started standing on her own. By the second year, Amberly Lago was back on her feet and doing what she loved most. She started training again and started telling her story of injury to recovery. Amberly has become a motivational speaker, author, and fitness coach. She has been featured on TED, Forbes, USA Today, Shape Magazine, and other media outlets. Here is her story of resilience.

Amberly Lago is an  American mindset coach, fitness coach, and author. She is also the host of True Grit and Grace Podcast which features people who have defied the odds of life and motivational talks. Lago has been a guest on media outlets such as The Todays Show on NBC, Hallmark, and Doctor’s TV. She has also contributed to Fit Pregnancy Magazine, and Health, and Disability Magazine.

Amberly Lago Age and Personal Life

Amber was born into a dysfunctional family. Her parents divorced when she was a child. Her relationship with her 4 siblings was toxic because they would get into fights. Amberly would suffer her brother’s punches because he was older and bigger than her. Her parents were also absent and unsupportive of her vision.

Regardless, Amberly continued pressing on to what she believed. Her worst kind of suffering happened when her Stepdad sexually abused her when she was 8 years old. She kept silent every time he approached her. One time, Amberly told her father about it but he kept silent. Seeing no one supporting her, Lago resorted to fighting for herself. The next time her stepdad wanted to abuse her, she punched her in the face. It was the last move on her he ever did.

Amberly Lago is 50 years old born in May 1972.  She is the wife of Johny Lago, a retired police lieutenant. The two met at their usual restaurant. Johnny noticed Amberly checking on him so he went over and hit on her. They later became close, started dating, and married in May 2010.

Prior to her relationship with Johnny, Amberly was in a relationship with a man and had her first child. She later had another child with Johnny. Johnny has been pivotal in Amberly’s resilience journey. He was with her when she was admitted to the hospital, during the fourth months of treatment and her recovery years.

Amberly Lago Education

She started off at Greenville High school and later at National Strength and Conditioning Association where she studied health and physical fitness. In 2014, she joined Certified Coaches Federation where she did general studies in Health and wellness.

Amberly started working in September 1987 as a Dance Instructor at the Academy of Dance Arts. In 1990 she joined the entertainment industry as a freelance dancer and choreographer doing stage dancer, video, and commercials for 8 years.

In 1997, she started Amberly Lago Fitness as a Business Owner. Lago was a personal trainer who had completed Thai Kickboxing, Krav Maga Belt, Pavel Kettle Bell Workshop, and Paul Check’s Dynamic Medicine Ball.

Amberly Lago Career

Amberly Lago recovered from her condition despite having 34 surgeries on her leg. Sitting and lamenting the condition of her leg was not an option. She had been a personal trainer for a little more than 15 years. She was good at making people feel better about themselves. Lago went for what she knew best.

In 2018, Amberly launched her business Inspired Living with Amberly Lagi LLC where she was the Speaker and Motivator. The reception was great as many people resonated with her story.

In April of the same year, Amberly authored the book True Grit and Grace: Turning Tragedy into Triumph, a story of how her life was changed by an accident and how she recovered and got victory.

The book was an instant success as it was listed on Amazon as a best seller. She became a sought-out speaker at conferences, wellness centers, and health and fitness institutions.

In 2019, she started her podcast named after her book. In the podcast, she delves deep into the minds of leaders, performers, and successful people to educate others to change their mindsets regardless of the challenge they have in their lives.

She has also had deep conversations with inspiring people such as Heather Monahan, Todd Sylvester, Ed Mylett, Dave Hollis, John Assaraf, and others.

In 2021, she founded the Unstoppable Life Mastermind program where she educates people to build influence, increase impact, and personal impact. The program is specifically for women who want to make an impact. It has tools, steps, and action items that help women in their personal growth.

Amberly Lago Success

Amberly has had success in her journey, more and faster than she could have ever imagined. She has shared the stage with influential people, who were once her role models, such as Mel Robbins, and Ed Mylett. Her Podcast was also listed in the top 1% on Apple Globally. She has also been an influential figure with 13,000 followers on Linkedin, 229k followers on Instagram, and a growing YouTube Channel.
