Rashad Bilal and Troy are popular for their podcast Earn Your Living. The Podcast started out of curiosity and the desire to fill the gap Millings had seen in the education sector. Millings served as a Physical Education teacher in the Bronx. It saddened him that his students lacked role models to follow after. Troy decided to be one.
He called Bilal and asked him to help in developing a course work for the kids. Bilal, who had been in the financial world and was a former basketball player, agreed. He taught about finance in a Career Talk and like Millings, he realized a gap that existed in schools. Many children and the school did not have financial education classes despite the financial problems facing people from the African American community.
Rashad Bilal and Millings became intentional about creating a lesson plan to educate the kids on financial matters. Bilal also realized he could use Instagram to educate people on financial matters. He invested in Instagram and succeeded since he received a tone of positive feedback.
His Instagram led to the birth of the Earn Your Lesire Podcast in January 2019. He invited Troy who became the co-host of the podcast. One year later, they began an online course called Earn Your Lesire University which offered courses in 35 unique industries and almost 2,000 students had enrolled.
EYL also birthed Market Mondays and a TV Show on Revolt under a series called Assets Over Liabilities. In the podcasts, Troy and Bilal have interviewed influential people such as Steve Harvey, Killer Mike, Mark Cuban, Shaquille O’Neal, and others. In 2022, GoBanking Rates announced Bilal among the 100 Most Influential Money Experts.
EYL grew further in 2022. On Instagram, they introduced EYL Kids, a kids’ show that focuses on educating children about money and building wealth. The show will feature product reviews, gaming content, and podcasts.
Invest Fest 2022
Earn Your Leisure grew rapidly revealing an interest in thousands of Americans desiring to learn about investing and financial literacy. Bilal and Troy teamed up with Matthew Garland and Michael MacDonald and founded Invest Fest, a weekend-long festival focused on educating people on investing, entrepreneurship, pop culture, and entertainment.
The first festival was held in 2021. The second one happened from August 5th to 7th in Atlanta, Georgia. The founders of the festival have invited world-renowned figures such as Steve Harvey, Rick Ross, Eric Thomas, Wall Street Trapper, and other celebrities. Entertainment and performance by musicians are also scheduled to happen. Rashad and Troy are organizing to have the third Invest Fest where Billionaire and a crowd of more than 20,000 people are expected.
The main aim of the event is to bring together black people and debunking financial myths like the more you work, the more money you get, investing in stocks is for the super-wealthy and one needs a lot of money to start investing in bonds and stocks.
