Niala Charles Biography

Niala Charles,29, is a Los Angeles-based national correspondent working for NBC News. She is also an excellent producer, reporter, and anchor. She used to serve in these positions when she worked at 12 News, KTTC, and WPEC. In her career, Niala has covered politics, entertainment, crime, and natural disaster all of which have attracted local and national attention. She maintains a close relationship with her brother, Brian Charles an athlete, and sister, Bri Charles.  Like most journalists, Charles is focused on growing in her career. The dream of becoming a journalist were born when she was a student at Pepperdine University, where she studied for a BA in Economics and Journalism. Before graduating, Charles involved herself in school activities and societies and also interned at various media outlets outside school. She was a worker in the Fine Arts Division, helping to improve customer service to faculty partners. For 1 year and 9 months, Charles worked at the school as a resident advisor and interned as an internal student service provider.

Outside school, Niala worked at Beyondblackwhite.com as an international traveling intern responsible for writing articles on pop culture, politics, and traveling. She got a golden opportunity to intern at BBC World Wide. Her responsibilities were assisting in the coordination of the daily press summary, updating Home Entertainment Press, and confirming press lists.

Her final internship program was at the International Documentary Association where she was in the department of Program and Events. She assisted in the preparation and maintenance of documents, researching advertising rates, and updating meeting records.

Getting a job was never easy after graduating. However, Niala was lucky when she got an opportunity at News Waves where she would work as a business and political reporter and anchor.

She kept the media house updated with the current trends locally and nationally. Niala also worked with experienced producers and scriptwriters to produce news that a larger audience could understand. After 3 years, she joined KTTC working in the same role as a reporter and anchor.

At KTTC,  Niala was actively involved in the community by engaging the locals in interviews regarding events that happened in the areas and providing news on air and at field locations. Niala anchored the morning and noon shows and also interviewed guests on the media network.

She served there for 2 years, before later joining WPEC as a reporter who hosted and emceed community events, scheduled interviews, and wrote stories for the website. Niala left the institution and worked as a freelance, before later joining 12 News, NBC as a reporter. On July 12, 2022, she signed off from her role as a reporter and jumped in to become an LA-Based correspondent for NBC.

Niala Charles is an all-round journalist. She covers news from politics to lifestyle news. Recently she did a story of a 13-year-old who got accepted into Arizona University for a course in medicine. She also covered a story about Black Surfers Organization, which provides a safe space for black surfers on American Coasts. Her work in the media has been appreciated by one Emmy which she got in 2021.
