Since settling in the United States, it has been Abbass’ dream to thrive in her passion for journalism. As a response to her dream, Sydea joined the West Chester University of Pennsylvania for a degree in communication studies.
As a student, she participated in the Communitarian as a writer. At the station, she got a glimpse of storytelling. An experience took place when she interned at F0X 29 WTXF-TV for four months. There, she got an opportunity to see and understand the routine of journalists. The experience stuck with her hunger for becoming a journalist.
After graduating, finding a real job was difficult due to the competition in the media networks. However, she was blessed to have an opportunity at QVC where she was a model. This opportunity gave her access to brands like Wander Beauty, Color Wow, and Josie Maran.
Her dream started becoming a reality when she became a traffic reporter for WTFX 29 where she gave commuters in Philadephia information about the present traffic situation. After one year and four months, Syeda got an opportunity at WJET-TV as an anchor and reporter for two years before joining WOIO as a full-time reporter.
Syeda has been a valuable asset at WOIO as she has been involved in covering stories that have had a widespread impact. She covered the Cleveland National Airshow, Canton House Fire, and Sand Fest. Syeda was also a moderator for Engage! Cleveland is a nonprofit organization aimed are engaging and retaining young talent by connecting young professionals, employers, and non-profit organizations.
At the end of the year 2022, Syeda announced her departure from Cleveland 19 News where she had been working for 3 years. She later joined KVOA News as a morning anchor and reporter for News 4 Tucson Today.
Since she joined KVOA, Syeda has been all around Arizona covering news important for the people. She has done a story on the growing concerns of Artificial Intelligence aking over jobs held by people for a long time. She was also part of the team that reported an increase in depression during hot months.
Recently, Syeda has covered Arizona Lawmakers’ quests to curb shoplifting. She also reported on the introduction of the New Youth Reengagement Center aimed at helping the youth receive support from the community. She tries to cover positive news to put a positive mindset on the viewers but also give them a reality of what is happening in the community. Syedda has a long way to go.
