Shanta Atkins is a powerful gospel musician, songwriter, and teacher. She is passionate about the work of God, which began earlier on in life. Over the years, she has made a name for herself despite being the youngest sister of the international and award-winning gospel duo Mary Mary. Like her sister, she has released hit gospel music that usher in Christians to the presence of God. She is also a podcaster and a missionary.

Shanta Atkins was born on 5th September 1986. She is the daughter of the late Eddie Atkins who was a member of the Church of God in Christ and Thomasina Atkins who was an evangelist and choir director.
Shanta’s parents had 7 children Darell Atkins, Maliea Atkins, Erica, Tina, Delisa, Thomasina, Alana, and Shanta. They had a brother who died when he was a child. All children are involved in music but later diverge into their respective callings as they grow up.
Delisa, Erica, and Tina formed a group but before they started recording, Delisa quit to focus on college. Erica and Tina were left and together they formed the Gospel Duo Mary Mary which rocked the gospel scene in the early 2,000.
In matters related to marriage and getting a husband, Shanta confessed in a YouTube video the frustration she had when waiting for God to give her a husband. She later switched her heart to devoting her time to serving the purposes of God. At 37, Shanta is still single and content with her status.
Music Career
The rest of the family backed up Mary Mary during their performance. As she was backing her sisters, Shanta also felt a calling to do music on her own. Initially, her passion was focused on doing mission work like her mother. Being passionate about the youth and seeing the mental challenges the young people went through, Shanta Atkins was compelled to do something. God started convicting her heart to produce music.
Soon, she started making music and just like her sisters, her music was widely accepted. Her music was more about reaching the hearts of people and building their mental capacity. Shanta Atkins has released powerful songs like Made up My Mind, Bow Down, God Sees You and in 2023 she released an impactful album called Follow Jesus.
Shanta is also powerful when on the stage. She has performed at big stages like the SOAR Awards, Soul Train Awards, Jay Leno Show, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. She has also recorded music with powerful musicians like her sisters Mary Mary, Jason Champion, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Kanye West. Miss Atkins has also shared the stage with Bebe Winans and Yolanda Adams.

Despite having created a name for herself, Shanta gets compared to her successful sisters. In an interview with Divah Files, Miss Atkins confessed to being pressured to succeed as her sisters even though she has a different definition of success. The gospel start offsets this argument by focusing on the mission that God gave her, which is doing mission work through her own organization Melodies for Missions.
Her devotion to the Kingdom work is selfless, Shanta has been available to offer spiritual counseling, vocal coaching, and in personal development programs. Her desire is to see people living a fruitful life through having an encounter with the Lord.
