Cowan celebrates her birthday on 7th May 1959. She came from a well-off family that owned The Diplomat Hotel in South Florida. The hotel was home to some of the biggest entertainers and musicians. Bob Hope, Dianna Ross, Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis Jr., and Gladys Knight had all visited the hotel.
Life in the limelight was never new to Cowan and her sister but her parents had different thoughts about their lives because they had seen what fame had done to people. They thought school was best for them.
The drive to become successful, however, was more than her parents could contain. She chased her desires with much zeal that her personal life was greatly affected. Cindy was once engaged to be married. However, due to the nature of her work, her fiance separated from her. Her work messed up her personal life but it later paid off. Cowan studied Psychology at Tulane University and proceeded to a master’s degree in Psychology at Havard. She started working as an anchor and reporter for CBS. Learning news production stirred the production bug in her.
The job, however, was overwhelming as she had to deal with rape, murder, loss of property, and many other depressing stories. She signed off from the job after covering the story of Adam Walsh, a young boy who was kidnapped and later decapitated.
After leaving the news career, Cowan bounced back to her first passion.: Songwriting. She did a song for a London-based musician working for BMI Music. The song became a success leading to the beginning of her career as a songwriter. She relocated to Los Angeles to work primarily as a songwriter.
She worked for a music group called Shalamar, singer Howard Hewitt, and Engelbert Humperdinck. With the money, she made as a songwriter she started venturing into the film business. She used the trial and error approach until she got it right. Cowen started as a Personal Assistant later as an executive producer and finally as a Company owner.
Cowan took a risk and ventured into a film niche avoided by everyone else. Fate favored her. The company she created ended up earning Emmy nominations, Golden Globes, People’s Choice awards, and other accolades. Cowan later sold the company.

More than working in the film industry, charity is everything to her. In 2019, she received the Humanitarian of the Year Award. However, Cindy stated that she does not do charity to get awards.
Charity has always been part of her. She was the chairperson of West Coast for an organization called Little Kids Rock, which offered school programs for free. She also participated in another charity called We Care Solar, which raised $5,000 for people to buy solar suitcases that light up operating rooms in developing nations.
Right now, Cindy is not as active as she was. She is living from her saving as a passive income. Her net worth is close to $5 million.
