Ben Cyco, whose real name is Ben Kariuki is one of the biggest Kenyan gospel artists taking the gospel industry to unchartered waters. He is a gospel artist, content, creator, TV host, and digital marketer. He started his career as a member of the Christ Cyco and later went on solo after other members dropped out. Currently, he is the co-host of the Joyride Podcast with his girlfriend-turned-wife, Wanjiru Njiru.

He was born on the 4th of July 1992. In his family, Ben is the black sheep talent-wise. This, however, did not stop him from pursuing his talent. On matters of relationships, Kariuki is a married man. In November 2020, he got married to his long-time girlfriend, Wanjiru Njiru, who is also a podcaster and entrepreneur. The couple’s relationship has not been without controversy as Ben’s friends discouraged him from getting hitched to her because she did not look Christian. Ben ignored the nay-sayers, looked on the bright side, and got married to her. In 2022, the couple will be celebrating 2 years of marriage.

Ben Cyco Education and Career

Growing up, Ben was a bold, confident, and opinionated child. He also had a fierce desire to become a musician, his role model being Kenyan renowned artist DNG. While in Upper High School, he formed a trio music group called Christ Cyco, made up of DJ Spin and Scofield. The trio performed at events around Nairobi but later parted ways as the group didn’t do well. He later reformed the group with Dambiz and The Dapper Brother. Like the other group, they parted ways after the music did not pay as they expected. The Dapper Brother joined the fashion industry, Dambiz pursued a career in videography and Cyco stuck his guns in music. Finally, his music started paying off. He got invited to events, advertisements,s and promotional shows. Cyco’s inspiration comes from past experiences and relationships with Christ. His goal is to bring people to Christ using his talent.

The limelight exposed Ben to the media industry. He tried TV and radio auditions but failed at them. His breakthrough came when he was introduced to podcasts. Starting a podcast gave him the idea of saying his opinions regarding issues and events happening in society without worrying about censorship. By that time, his girlfriend had her podcast running. She encouraged him to start his own podcast. After a few trials, The Cyco Podcast was born. The podcast has been successful, attracting thousands to listen to his opinions and views concerning issues affecting young people. He has interviewed Nyawira Gachugi, Milly and Kabi Wa Jesus, Just Ivy, and Karwirwa.

The Joyride Podcast

Immediately, after their marriage, the couple birthed The Joyride Podcast, a platform to educate, entertain and inspire others going through the journey of life, marriage, and parenting. On the Podcast, they have addressed issues such as religion in relationships, toxic habits, couples therapy, dealing with grief, and losing your identity. The couple has grown from a two-people show to a nationally wide accepted show. They do live experiences at popular colleges in Kenya.
