If you align your will with the will of God, chances are you will live a life and achieve things that are worth His name. Things are not going to be easy. They can even be harder at times, but God will give you the strength to endure any kind of challenge. This was the life of Bishop RJ Matthews. At 38, he serves as a lead pastor of two churches and oversees others. The bishop is also a community leader, husband, and father. All these came from his sheer belief in the God of the Bible. We did a mini-biography of the pastor, explaining how he made it to become the person he is.
Bishop RJ Matthews Age, Family, and Marriage
Mathews comes from a Christian family. He was born on 2nd July 1984. His parents are staunch Christians who taught him the way of the Lord from a young. The teachings he got stirred a desire to pursue Jesus and as he did he became the person God designed him. One of his major breakthrough stories is his testimony about meeting his wife Prophetess Cycelia Denise Matthews.
If it was up to worldly standards, Matthews and Cycelia wouldn’t have been married. It took the intervention of the Holy Spirit to make them one in the eyes of God. The two met at Cycelia’s father’s church where Matthews was invited to preach in an ushers’ events. After the service, the two talked and had a good time together. Later, they met at another event where Cycelia was emceeing.
They started talking after the show and exchanged numbers afterward. The following weeks followed long hours of talking and chatting on the phone. Sadly, what they had started lasted for only three weeks. The love birds broke up because of something Cycelia had done. The break-up lasted 2 and a half years before they started talking again.
Eventually, they started talking and became close friends. Their relationship this time was mature and communication was clear between them. As they talked, they became close. One day, after God confirmed to him, Matthew proposed to Cyclelia in front of the Church. The two defied the odds that were against them during the talking stages and dating. As of 2022, the couple celebrated 16 years of marriage and 3 adorable children.
Journey to Pastorship
The decision to become a pastor was built in Matthew’s DNA. As a child, Matthews told his mother he would build a church someday in the future. Years later, Matthew built a mega-church in the same place he told his mother.
He was an active student since his time at Christopher Columbus High School and when he was a student at World Harvest Bible College where he studied advanced Pastoral Leadership.
His pastoral work started when he was a youth pastor at Harvest Time Church. After 2 years, he returned to his hometown, Houston, joining Kingdom Vision International Church as an interim pastor. In 2021, he took over as the lead pastor at The Harvest while still maintaining his position at KVIC.
Besides the church, RJ is passionate about the personal and professional development of pastors. He heads The Revive Nation Fellowship, which is aimed at providing spiritual protection for pastors across the world. He is also devoted to the community and regularly speaks on matters that promote community wellness. Matthews has been involved in the Black Live Matters campaign and in colleges.
