The journey to becoming a journalist started at the College of Sports Media where he pursued a diploma in Radio, Television, and Digital Communication. In his sophomore, he became a writer for The Hockey Writer where he covered news in the hockey world.
He later joined Rogers Sports net where he was an associate editor tasked with publishing stories, and creating original content on the network’s digital platforms. Colton later joined Radio Company CJ in Manitoba as a radio host for an afternoon show. His duties were doing daily reports on weather, and news and voicing community events.
After graduating, Colton got his first job as a video journalist and sports anchor at Dougall Media. He created daily stories, pitched ideas, and anchored sports segments.
His breakthrough came when he joined Global News as a Digital Broadcast Journalist based in Regina. He worked his way and became a weather specialist after 1 year. As a weather anchor, he got several fill-in opportunities and co-anchoring Global Regina Morning News.
Displaying commanding skills in anchoring earned him a promotion as a full-time news anchor doing a 3-hour morning news program, interviewing guests, and reporting when off the studio.
After another year, he got an opportunity to work at Canada’s capital, Ottawa for CTV. He joined as a contracted Senior News Writer tasked with delivering and writing local market newscasts for shows such as The Morning Rush and The Evan Solomon Show.
After two months he was hired permanently as a multi-skilled journalist responsible for reporting, producing, and filling in as an anchor. In February 2023, he was promoted to a full-time CTV News anchor.
Since becoming a permanent news anchor, Colton has covered US President’s Visit to Canada, the resignation of Merrilee Fullerton, the state of crime in Stittsville, and Canada’s 2023 Budget.
