Corallys Ortiz Personal Life

African American and Afro-Latino women have always been on the criticism end because of their hair. Many times their natural hair has been attributed as unprofessional. Modern times are seeing black women rocking their natural hair even on Tv despite the backlash. Corallys Ortiz, whom we are going to cover in this article, has been a victim of criticism because of her natural hair but whatever the internet said, she threw under the bus.

She is a journalist working for TV11 as a meteorologist and a science communicator. Prior to her current position, Corallys worked at WBBJ and WERS Radio. Corallys is skilled in interpreting weather, reporting, and doing live coverages.

She was born on 10th July 1992 in San Juan, Puerto Rico but her actual descendency is Dominica. She was raised in Massachusetts where she fell in love with the weather at a young age. Corallys is a sibling to Linabel. She is also married to Mr. Polegoshko, a white man. They had their wedding in November 2021 after dating for 8 years.

Corallys Ortiz Career

Ortiz got interested in Massachusett’s weather earlier on in her life. This fascination led her to do two degrees: Operation Meteorology and Communication and Broadcast Journalism at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She later went for her master’s in Journalism at Emerson College.

While doing her degree, she was the president of the broadcasting club and created content weather broadcasts. In her senior year, she taught beginners how to shoot and edit videos.

At Emerson College, Otiz served as a weather correspondent. She was among the 25 people selected as a fellow at NBC Universal Media where she had intensive training in meteorology broadcasting.

She started her journalism career outside school as an intern at Arlington Community Media where she was among the news and production team. While in this media, she learned to gather resources and doing on-field reporting. Ortiz got her first job at WERS as a reporter and producer who wrote scripts and prepared news stories. In 2017, she landed a job at WBBJ7 as a weekend evening meteorologist for Eyewitness News. She broke news, provided science-backed stories, and did stories on science, education, and features.

It is at WBB7 where she received negative comments on air because of her hair. The video went viral on the internet, spreading word on the level of racism women of color go through. This experience landed Ortiz an interview with Teen Vogue where she went deep about the experience of black women on TV.

Despite the circumstance, Corallys has still pressed on to become better at her profession. She is now a science communicator and weather specialist at THV11. She writes and produces a segment called Science Says, co-hosts a lifestyle show called The Vine and participates in providing comprehensive weather coverage.

The journalist has proved to be dependable despite criticism. Ortiz has also demonstrated the potential of women of color. With the likes of Autumn Robertson, Lauren Coleman, and Shardae Larae, have shown the world that a woman of color can have natural hair and still be professional.

Corallys other physical attributes are a naturally dark skin complexion and a height of 5 feet and 8 inches. She also gets a salary of approximately $60,000 per year. Her success is the success of many who look after her.
