Lila is a Filipina American born with a congenital birth condition called Spina Bifida. The condition occurs when the spine and spinal cord fail to form properly. She received surgery immediately after her birth. By the time she was 14 years old, Lila had gone through 7 surgeries. She spent a long time in the wheelchair before she had the strength to walk. Because of her condition, Lila had stunted growth and started walking with a limp because her left foot was weak and short than her right foot.
Her physical appearance changed how she interacted with people and how others treated her. In the interview with Metro, Lila explains the challenges she had at school. One of the challenges she faced was finding a mate. She told the Metro that many boys would approach her in secret and confess their fear of dating a person identified as a midget and disabled.
Lila also re-told the experience she had when she wanted to enter the sorority house. All 15 houses rejected her because of her condition. Stigmatization and rejection led her to alcoholism. However, after some time she started a journey of sobriety. During this journey, Lila found her worth and validation. It was at this time that she attracted Eric, who later became her boyfriend. The two later married in February 2022. Currently, she no longer looks down on herself as a disabled person. She accepted herself as who she was born to be. Lila has been an inspiration to thousands of people following her across her social platforms.
