His career began at Global News, in 2010, where he worked as a reporter and anchor. According to his LinkedIn, Scott was first based in Regina then later transferred to Vancouver. For almost 2 years, he worked for CBS NEWS as a News Anchor. In 2016, he joined CNN Newsource where he worked as a correspondent. He was promoted to a national correspondent based in Denver in the year 2017. He further rose in the corporate ladder in 2018 as an international correspondent based in London, where he currently works.

He covered Presidential election in United States and President’s Trump inauguration. When Obama became President, Scott covered the historic trip Obama made to Cuba and the death of Fidel Castro which followed shortly after.
He is courageous when covering national disasters. Mclean spent time covering the Woolsey and Camp fires in Carliformia. He was also present for one month during the Kilauea volcano eruption in the Island of Hawaii. In one instance, he is seen ducking lava bombs while interviewing a man. His courage earned a good reputation in CNN.
