He grew up with a passion for serving in the community as a journalist. Tanner pursued his dream at Ball State University where he enrolled in a course in Telecommunication. Before graduating, he got internship opportunities at Swick Broadcasting and WKRC. At these media stations, he learned the ins and outs of journalism. The young journalist learned the journalism terms, shooting, editing, and producing required content.
After serving in school and several stations as an intern, he got his first opportunity as a Director of social media at NewsLink Indiana. He was tasked with creating content for the organization’s social media platforms. He later rose to the assistant news director, director, and later a news anchor and reporter. His duties were producing newscasts for the stations and covering local stories in Delaware.
After 3 years in Delaware, he joined News 14 first as a reporter and MMJ and later as a morning news anchor after the retirement of Dan Katz. He has covered Hurricane Ian, Crime in Evansville, and politics in the country.
In September 2021, the veteran journalist passed the Morning news desk anchor baton to Tanner after serving at 14 News for 28 years. Holbrook joined Shaelie and Byron in the sunrise team.
Tanner contributes to a segment called 14 News Special Report where he has done stories like the shortage of pilots in the Evansville region, lack of access to pilot training, and the impact of airline cuts.
