Poppy Okotcha as a Horticulturist
Two years into her modeling career, Poppy, on her website, said she wanted a lifestyle that promoted mental and physical well-being. She turned to horticulture and growing food. She studied at the Royal Horticulture Society and in 2016 she joined Rebel as a florist trainee. As a trainee, Okotcha learned to make bouquets for walk-in customers. Trainers taught her to care for cut flowers and houseplants to make them for sale. She also learned how to create shop window flower displays.
Later, she joined Permaculture and Forest Garden where she met Martin Crawford who taught her how to take care of community gardens. After training, Crawford awarded her with the certificate of a Permaculture Designer in 2019.
Currently, she is an ambassador for Nature is a Human Right and the World Wide Fund for Nature in the UK. She contributed immensely to the Gardener’s World in BBC Two and The Great Garden Revolutions where she co-hosted.
She still does horticultural work in the 30m by 5m plot where she lives. Okotcha plans to create an edible and medicinal forest garden.
