Anita Wilson was born on 19th June 1976 and grew up in East St. Louis. She is the daughter of parents who served as church leaders. Anita is also a sibling to Freshun Wilson, author and singer, and Fredrick Wilson. Growing up in a Christian-grounded family, Anita followed up in her parent’s footsteps. She is married to her partner and friend Rick Robinson who is an instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Anita Robisnon’s passion for music started when she was a child. Growing up around church, led her to join the choir where she learned vocals and developed the confidence to sing in front of people. She participated in music in high school and when she was at Howard University.
Career in Music
Her music career started soaring when she served as a background voice for artists like Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Hezekiah Walker, and Marvin Snapp. Joining Donald Lawrence and Co. for 10 years as a BGV created momentum and confidence to go on her own. With the advice of Donald and her parents, she decided to venture on her own.
In 2012 she released her debut album Worship Soul, which became the name of her voice in music, which was a combination of her childhood influences and her belief in God. With her thoughts and the creativity of her husband, they were able to combine the elements of soul, R&B, and gospel into her productions. The debut album was an immediate hit after NYT Critic listed it among his best 2012 songs. Worship Soul also got a Grammy Award nomination for Best Gospel Album. In 2012, Anita Wilson released another power-packed album called Vintage Worship, which also got another Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Album.
In 2017 she transferred record label from EMI to eOne Music, which released her Sunday Song, another hit album that topped Billboard top gospel albums and also earned a nomination with Grammies. With only three albums, she has rocked airwaves for more than 10 years.
In 2023, she shared her Spotify music performance and her songs have been streamed 7.5 million times in over 183 countries. Her ability to blend soul and gospel into good music for Christians and non-Christians has been able to touch many souls and turn them into loyal fans. Her music, however, has not been widely accepted by Christians as others view her music as lukewarm since it embraces elements of secular music, which is ungodly to Christians.
Regardless, Anita has pressed on to making more music and serving her fans with extraordinary performances and events. Her main message remains worshipping God and praising Him for who He is. Her influence in the industry of music has been reflected by other passionate gospel musicians like Shanta Atkins and Naomi Raine.
