Brandi has covered several stories that have had national attention. Prior, to working at KHOU, she was a reporter at KPIC, KIVI, Chambers of Communication, and KEZ.

Smith is a Houston-born and bred. She comes from a big family which has supported her in her education and career. Brandi was born in 1982. The 40-year-old is the wife of Justin Stapleton, a meteorologist at KPRC 2. The couple met while they were both working at KEZ 9 News. Smith was working as an Anchor and Justin, a meterologist. Both of them were going through a divorce and fate later had them connect. Within a short time, the couple began dating. Years later they started working at two competitive media houses in Houston: KHOU TV and KPRC. However, they view each other as supporters instead of competitors. The couple is blessed with two daughters Maya Grace, 16, and Ella, 14. Other couple journalists working for different media houses are Rashi Vatz and Daniel Gotera.

Smith was always passionate about studies and School. She went to Roseburg Highschool and was active in Theater and the French Club. All these helped her in preparing for her future career. She later went to Umpqua Community College in 2002 where she did journalism. After graduating, Smith went for further studies at the University of Oregon where she pursued a degree in Electronic Media. Brandi’s passion for journalism was visible as a student. She worked part-time at KPIC TV as a fill-in anchor, producer, and multimedia Journalist. Her roles were conducting interviews, editing videos, and researching stories. Later, she interned at Fisher communication in the news department where she produced, wrote scripts, and reported while on site. She officially started working at Oregon Daily Emerald as a Copy Chief who edited work by staff and freelance writers to guarantee the accuracy of facts. After one year, she relocated to Boise, Idaho to work for KIVI-TV as a reporter, producer, and weather specialist. She worked there for two years, writing scripts, editing, and anchoring weekend weather.
In December 2007, Brandi started working at Chambers communications as an Evening anchor. She was the youngest main anchor in the market. Smith covered the story of Colonel Jim Dutton who dreamt of becoming an astronaut and the Toys for Tots campaign. She left Chambers after five years and worked as a freelance reporter for campus insiders and later as an Account manager and Broadcast producer for Cappelli Miles. Here she became profecient in writing and editing communication materials. Smith also learned to produce press releases and radio productions.
From 2014 to 2017, Smith worked at several media outlets as a freelance writer and fill-in anchor. Her breakthrough came in 2017 when she joined KHOU 11 News.
