Rachael Wilkerson,28, is an American journalist working as an investigative reporter for WRTV. Growing up in a broken family did not discourage her from pursuing her childhood dreams. She started at New Hope High School and later at Calhoun Community College where she did general studies. She pursued BA studies at Troy Unversity where she did Fine Arts and Communication and majored in Broadcast Journalism. While in school, Wilkerson involved herself in societies and the school media. She was a huge contributor to Troy Today. After graduating, Rachael joined Arizona State University to study Spanish.
The young journalist started involving herself in the media industry while still in college. She recorded commercials for WTWZ and recorded her voice for Alabam State Capital Museum. After school, she got an internship opportunity at WAKA where she wrote scripts, covered sports news, and helped in producing some coverages. Rachael got another internship opportunity at BOWLJET.com where she was a blogger. For 7 months, she blogged about the Auburn Tigers.
Wilkerson got her first job opportunity at WZDX where she was a photographer and multimedia journalist. Her responsibilities were researching, editing, and varying content from the field reporters. After a year, she was called to WPMI-TV as an investigative reporter and Fill-in anchor. She had finally secured her dream job. Rach has done investigations on crime, deaths that did not add up, and corruption scandals in the county. In 2021, she was named Best Investigative Journalist during the Alabama Broadcasters Association Awards after she had won Best reporter in the previous year. Rachael and her team also won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence. Her achievement and recognition led her to secure a job position at WRTV as an investigative reporter.
