Growing up, Katherine had a passion to appear on the screen. This desire shaped the decision she would later make. She went to the University of South Carolina where she did Broadcast Journalism and minored in Political science. She involved herself in media societies and activities which helped her in getting the experience of a journalist.
As a student, Philips interned at WMBF where she wrote articles for the website and did local breaking news. She was also handy in reporting in the field and editing packages set for live shots. Philips assisted in the assignment desks to communicate with reporters on the field. Next, she interned at WOLO TV as a sports reporter tasked with shooting and editing local football games, broadcasting scripts into content for the website, and producing some shows. After graduating she got another internship opportunity at CNN where she assisted in the Situation Room. For the three months, she was there, Phillips did research on Robert Mueller’s hearing and also fact-checked information.
The journalist got her first employment opportunity at WMBF as a reporter who did daily reports for three evening newscasts and also edited her work. Philips also had the responsibility of writing content for the website and keeping the social media pages active and engaging. In December 2021, she joined KSEE-TV 24 as a weekday nightside reporter who covered breaking news, agriculture, politics, and crime. She has done exclusive coverage of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.
