She was born on 11th June 1988 in Sierra Leone. Zai grew up in a Christian home and has subscribed to the religion her entire life. She is married to pastor Stephen Chandler and together their union is blessed with 3 children. Before getting married to Stephen, Zai was previously married to a man but he was murdered leading to the end of their marriage.

Zai grew up knowing and practicing the Christian faith but she had never had an encounter with the God of the Bible. Her encounter came at one of her lowest moments in life.
It happened when she lost her husband, who died after being shot in the heart. Her father also died before she could process the death of her husband. For a long time, Zai became mad at God for allowing her to go through so much pain. She left church only to come back after a year.
During the service, she prayed asking God to see her. One time while on a casual line in a Jamaican restaurant, she saw her pastor and thought of greeting him but she dismissed the thought because she felt the pastor was busy. In her narration on Better Together, Zai said that when the pastor turned and looked at her, she saw Jesus on his face staring at her.
The encounter was real because Zai felt the presence of God within her and the confirmation that He was seeing her. The pastor, confused about what was happening, gave Zai a fatherly hug.
After the encounter, Zai’s life took a new turn. She became obsessed with the word and the purposes of God. She started serving God and seeing miracles happening where she was working as a nurse. She also covenanted within her self that she would serve God all the days of her life.

Once she got married to Stephen Zai, she dedicated her life to serving the Lord Jesus. Now Zai serves as an executive pastor at Union Church. Her sermons display an in-depth knowledge of the Bible and the people she is serving.
Her life is also an inspiration to many Christians who desire to live a modest life. Zai has also been invited to major Christian media outlets like Better Together, BLDRS Conference 2023, and Good Morning America.

Although Zai is a strong Christian, she has faced challenges like most Christians.
- She has struggled with being complacent and losing her first love for God despite having a definite encounter. Zai has countered this problem by praying, and fasting.
- She also struggled with trusting God. When she was pregnant her trust in God was challenged. God gave her a dream of having a family and children. However, it took a month before she became pregnant. When she finally became pregnant, Zai started having thoughts of getting a miscarriage. She regained her hope in God by burying herself in the word of God and using it against every thought that was coming against her.
